Wolf
Dance Stick’s
By
Larry
I
cerate each of my dance sticks one at a time by hand, in traditions and
the deepest respect to my brothers and sisters. The original inhabits of
North America.
The
stick is more then just a piece of art. It should be held in respect and
should be danced. If you do not have any belief in God then the
stick will never be anymore, or any less then a piece of wood. But if you
have faith then I will briefly try to explain the dance stick.
As
I release the wolf image from the wood I give thanks to Creator God
(Grandfather) for all the elements in the dance stick.
It is traditional to make an offering of tobacco to the four
directions above and below. I have done so for each of the items on the
stick. When you dance the stick you will awake the Spirit of the wolf and
all that is within the stick will dance with you. Give thanks to
Grandfather for the gifts of the dance stick. Some of the sticks will
already have a sex while some other will not. You will know what the sex
is when you awaken your dance stick
The
Wood “Tree People”
We
give thanks to the tree people for the wood. Tree people give us many
things. We set under tree to hide from the heat of Sister Sun.
In the coldness of Father Winter, Tree gives, warmth. Tree provides
us with shelter, transportation, and food and so much more. Thank You
Grandfather for Tree people.
The
Ribbons
Red,
Yellow, Black, White, Are the four direction, the four races of mankind
the four elements and the four seasons.
Blue is above and Green is below, Father sky and Mother earth. The
sky that gives us rain and the earth that gives us life, the earth from
which we came and will return and the sky that holds the spirits of all
our ancestors.
This
is a sample of the medicine wheel
and a simple prayer. If we are to gain understanding from the medicine
within our dance stick then it is appropriate to be thankful to Creator
God (Grandfather) for giving us the creation that is our pathfinder and
teachers.
East
is red
this is the place of our childhood this is the place of spring and new
beginning. This is wolf. “Thank
you Grandfather for the east.”
South
is yellow
This is the place of our youth. This is the time of plenty, summertime,
buffalo, and bear. “Thank you Grandfather for the south.”
West
Is Black,
This is autumn the time of the adult. This is also the time of darkness in
our life it is only in when we stand in darkness that we can look into the
east to see the rising sun and the light. This is our time of growth this
is Thunderbird. “Thank you
Grandfather for the west.”
North
is White
This is winter, the place of the elder where we seek knowledge from the
wise. This is polar bear,
bald eagle, and the snowy owl.
“Thank
You Grandfather for the north.”
The
fur is Rabbit.
Rabbit
reminds us to remind grounded in our thoughts to keep close watch on
things that can cause us harm. We can look at this in many ways. From
keeping our enemy at a distance, from keeping our bodies and minds clear
of things Grandfather wound find unpleasant. Rabbit calls our fears. When
you dance, hold rabbit and call upon your fears and dance them unto mother
earth. “We thank you Grandfather for Rabbit. We give you our fears
Grandfather, so we can move forward to seek the spirit of the wolf.”
Elk
The
fur is wrapped in rawhide or elk: Elk
medicine teaches us to pace ourselves this will increase our stamina. Elk
medicine stands for friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood. Elk teaches us
to put our jealousy and competition aside and to be a good warrior/
warrioress. “Thank you Grandfather for Elk.”
The
Feather
The
most sacred feather of all is the bald eagle, Eagle flies closet to God
(Grandfather). Our prayers are lifted up on the wings of eagles. Eagle
feathers are earned and are not part of this dance stick.
Yet the feathers on your dance stick are no less important then
those of the eagle. Grandfather made all living things, as feathers come to me I
place them on the dance stick to honor all the winged ones. Our
brother’s and Sisters that fly to the havens, who touch father sky, and
cast their shadow upon mother earth. “Thank you Grandfather for all our
winged brothers and sisters whom you love and provide for”. As we watch
them fly we will learn from them. We honor especially raven who leads
Brother Wolf to the hunt. We honor divined law of Crow and Raven. “Thank
You Grandfather”.
The
Wolf
Wolf
is teacher and pathfinder Wolf medicine is the gift of teaching the
children of earth in understanding the Great Mystery and life. Wolf gives
us loyalty to the pack God (Grandfather) and to our soul mate. Grasp wolf
medicine as not to benefit for yourself but to be a benefit to others.
“Thank
you Creator God Grandfather for all life.”
